MVID: Pitch Reflection

After a class discussion over my pitch and sample scene these are things I picked up on to change, consider or add to my music video:

SAMPLE SCENE:
1. Could consider using panning shots then cross fades for the nature shots at the start
2. Opportunity for layering on these nature shots.
3. To have recurring shots of water (e.g. ponds, lakes) because it relates to the track name and entire theme of the song -  bloodstream.
4. To use the stabilisation tool on FCPX on some of the shaky nature shots.
5. To take out the fade to black in the transitioning between the nature shots to the lip syncing shots and never EVER use a black screen again.
6. Add a few shots of the performer (Astrid S) not lip syncing, but instead looking at camera or at something in a sad way for example.
7. Go location scouting in Luxembourg instead of Nottingham, England to find a pond/lake near a forest.
8. Film some shots of the performer actually plucking a berry off the berry tree in the berry tree shot of the nature shots sequence.
9. Only include shots of the performer moving around/dancing because it creates verisimilitude for the music video.
10. Make costume changes very clear to see. Also, be aware of everything you choose to make the performer wear because there has to be a reason for every choice made.
11. Try to use more extreme close up, close up shots and cutaway shots, instead of just medium long shots and medium shots to create a sense of movement and flow in the music video.
12. Don't keep the dancing lip syncing shots on screen for a long time because this will make the video less convincing - it will lose the verisimilitude.
13. Potential opportunity to have multiple Astrids on screen at one time or have the Astrids reflecting each other.
14. Experiment with focus pulls and pushes because this looks impressive.
15. Include quirkiness and visual oddness in the music video like in the example Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again.
16. Instead of creating extreme looks/styles just through colour correction, use actual extreme make-up to make it look better.
17. Consider the edginess of the nose ring as part of the costumes, it attracts an older audience and allows identification for adult audience.
18. Create a dance routine that can be replicated within the video that a tween female audience can copy and dance to together. - This helps with the viral element too.
19. Put the music video idea on kickstarter.com, screenshot it then delete it from the website.
20. Consider the costumes and the image you want of the artist. Go extreme with the costumes, make-up and hair - do research into Lady Gaga, Annie Lennox, Grace Jones, Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux and more extravagant figures. Also, use brighter coloured costumes to attract a younger audience (primary colours and neon colours which can be seen especially in the dark - reds, yellows, pinks, oranges, greens, purples). The more striking, the better, which allows me to challenge conventions.

  1. Same as per podcast: where's the resultant production schedule update? Specific idea re-summary? You could keep adding short points to a single placeholder post (use top links list if so)
You must have ZERO posts like this: lots of unformatted text, no illustration or multimedia.
If you know you need to work on a post, use the tag TBC, and remove the tag when done
