SHOOT PLANNING: Health & Safety

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
  • Extremely cold weather
  • Rainy weather
  • Snow/hale/ice
  • Near main roads with lots of cars going by
  • Cars going by in underground car park
  • Drowning underwater, having to hold breath underwater for periods of time
  • Losing pieces of equipment
  • Travelling with lots of equipment

STEPS TO CUT RISK OF HARM:
  • Wear lots of jackets and warm clothing when outside on shoots.
  • Make sure there is a place nearby to go inside to get warm after periods of time outside on shoots.
  • Pack all equipment in one big suitcase, instead of having everything kept in separate bags - which results in the likelihood of losing equipment.
  • Bring umbrella for the cast and to put over the equipment in case of rain, hail or snow when on shoots outside.
  • Schedule shoots for the days when there isn't any rain, hail or snow.
  • Bring little box to keep all SD cards in so they are kept safe and accessible and to prevent the likelihood of losing them.
  • Use zebra crossing appropriately/as one should, when filming across a road.

VODCAST 4: Journey Summary

Here is a vodcast I made with a trial student for A Level Media. I made this video to help me figure out what is missing on my blog at this current time and to help this girl trial student understand what A Level Media entails and what kinds of things you have to do in it. I summarise everything that I have done so far and everything I need to still do. I also explain about the music video production process and how I created my latest sample scene.

PODCAST 11: Production Schedule Update 10

...

16/01/18

Hi! Today I am stating that I have taken images for my digipak last Sunday night, they are images for the front cover of my digipak, also maybe for my lyric booklet and for the rest of the digipak. They are on my blog so check them out!

Also, I rang the strassen Swimming pool 'Les Thermes' in Luxembourg last night and asked whether I could film there, I had to wait quite a while since I rang them at 3:00 then they said can you call back at 5:00, then again to be told ring at 6:00. I spoke to a man twice and he has figured it all out and arranged it with me, allowing me to film there. I offered to come at a quiet time when no one is around, so 9 oclock or something. I initially said I would only need 15 minutes because I didn't want to cause an inconvenience so he said I would be able to start filming at 9:30 then finish at 9:45 when everyone has to leave the pool. I am going to try and ask him when i get there whether I can actually start filming at 9:00 and finish at 9:45. I don't think this will be an issue, especially if there is no one around in the pool at that time. Also, this we arranged, to be on the 19th of January which is Friday. So, I have asked cast member Alex, last night and he said he is fine with that and I have arranged transport to get there and back since it's somewhat far away from my house and I don't know how to get there by bus.

I have also decided to film on wednesday with alex from 4-8. I would start filming the scenes at my house with Alex at 4, then go and film around auchan with him after. I need to film the scenes between the couple which are intimate and somewhat sexual. We will be wearing different costumes for this than we wore in the earlier footage around auchan and in the fast food place 'quick'. I also want to film Alex on the bench that I sat on when Serge filmed me. I will also film the couple sitting on that bench together.

I am also going to get some audience feedback for all my cuts and sample scenes so far either today, tomorrow or the day after. I am definitely going to get all this for Friday.

That's all for this week. Bye!

PODCAST 10: Production Schedule Update 9

...

...
10/01/18

Hi there! I am planning to take photos for my digipak with the sony a58 on Sunday night after school. I also plan to finally finish my first rough cut and get some audience feedback from this rough cut.

In lesson today for media, we started experimenting with our effect that we want to use on our digipak front cover image on photoshop. My effect was the double exposure effect. I watched lots of tutorial videos on how to create this effect and slightly tested it out. I also checked to see how you achieve the same effect on Final Cut Pro X. After watching these, I have now learned how to do these.

I still need to ring the Strassen swimming pool as to whether they will give me permission to film there. I want to film underwater footage of myself and Alex (the couple characters) in their swimming pool making out underwater and touching each other. I also want to film myself underwater floating in a dress.

MVID: Sample Scene 2

...

...
What I have changed since the last sample scene:

MVID: Dance Routine

When filming myself doing the lip syncing performance I decided that I needed to make up a small dance routine which could be repeated several times throughout the music video. I watched lots of videos on hip hop dance routines for example this one below I really really liked:
...

...

I wanted to take elements from this dance routine and put them into mine, I found this very difficult however because it is such a fast dance routine so it is hard to spot all the individual dance moves and copy them. So, then, I watched some more videos on basic hip hop dance moves:
...

...

...
I also actually, by curiosity, searched for the song I have chosen to work on by Astrid S (Bloodstream) just to see if anyone had choreographed a dance routine to the song and by all my luck there was a video with a dance routine to the song!! -
...

...
There was even a step by step tutorial on this dance routine in another video! -
...

...

After slightly benefiting from watching these help videos and the dance routine video for my song (since they are all quite complex and fast), I have decided that I am going to ask a friend in my school who does dancing, if she can choreograph a small dance routine for my song (Bloodstream) with some moves from these videos (mainly from the 1st video which was for the song Beyoncé - Yonce).

WEBSITE: Font Research

Before I decide on a font for my website and digipak, I have done some research into existing fonts for electropop artists and some artists from other genres.

Charli XCX (electropop):

Tokio Myers (pop, electronic, classical):

Astrid S (electropop):

Post Malone (hip hop):

MØ (electropop):

Mabel (electropop):

After looking at these I have decided that my favourite art the fonts for Charli XCX, Post Malone and Mabel. I think they are quite groovy, electro, techno, disco looking. This has now told me what kind of fonts to start looking for on dafont.com, a website I have used many times for AS Media Studies.

I have now looked through a lot of the fonts under the category: 'Techno/Sci-Fi' and in 'Retro'. I took screenshots of all these fonts I found and liked:
...
Logotronik

...
Univox

...
Plexifont BV

...
Dylovastuff

...
Yummy!

...
Bisurk

...
Slurp

Once I downloaded all these fonts, I uploaded them onto wix.com so that I can use the fonts on wix.com while editing my website. I applied each font to the title 'ASTRID S' sometimes like 'ASTRID_S' to see what all the fonts would look like on my website:
...
Yummy!

Incopins Clusters

Dylovastuff

Bisurk

Logotronik

Slurp

Plexifont BV

I would say my personal favourite out of all these fonts is the last one 'Plexifont BV'. I think it looks the most unusual, striking and cool. I think the 4th one is too light and thin. My two least favourites are the 2nd and 3rd ones. I think they are kind of boring and not the right style I'm looking for. However, now, I am going to do some audience research, I'm going to ask many people which fonts they like best out of these through a Facebook survey which all my Facebook friends can see.

I searched on google how to create a survey through Facebook and I found this link which told me what to do.

Here is the process I took:
...

Then, you can look at the results for your survey:

The results from the survey revealed to me that the bold, bigger fonts seemed to be the most well-liked and favoured, e.g. the 'logotronik' font, the 'dylovastuff' font, the 'incopins clusters' font and the 'yummy' font. I also discovered this not only from the survey, but also from a facebook chat group I made where I asked my friends on Facebook what they thought of all the 7 fonts. They told me that they thought the rest were too thin and hard to read and see:
...

...

...

The results narrowed my choices down to the bold fonts. I looked through them all again and decided that actually I didn't like any of them. This meant I would have to do more research and find another font which is bold and striking. Then I remembered, I REALLY like the existing font for the album title of Post Malone's album 'Stoney':
...
I spent loads of time trying to find this font online somewhere to download and eventually I found a very similar font like this and where to download it from. I found it on dafont.com. It was called 'Planet Kosmos'.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK 2: Artist Logo Font

I searched on google how to create a audience survey through Facebook and I found this link which told me what to do. I created a survey which asked people which of 7 fonts would look best for an electropop artist logo on a website.

Here is the process I took:

PODCAST 9: Production Schedule Update 8

...

...
03/01/18

Hi again! It's now 2018! I have done a lot recently in terms of filming and editing. Today I have just edited half a rough cut. I have discovered I have a LOT of footage, more than enough. However, I still have more scenes to film which are: the club scene, more scenes of the couple doing things and the underwater in pool scene. This will not take long to do, I plan to film the rest of this week. After I have filmed all the necessary footage, I will then see if I need to re-film anything. For example, after looking at some of the footage my classmate Richard filmed, I may have to re-film the shot which follows the main female protagonist walking outside around Auchan at night and crossing the zebra crossing, because you can see water splashes on the camera lens which block some of the shot. In terms of digipak and website, I have come up with a final idea for the design concept which is heavily influenced by Tokio Myers' album design for 'Our Generation'. The album cover is of Tokio Myers shirtless, not looking at the camera, standing infront of a redscreen in red lighting/red colour correction. There is also some light blue lighting/colour correction used on his left shoulder and left side of face. After seeing this album cover in the holidays I was really inspired, I think it is very striking, powerful and quirky. Also, the striking colours used here are a convention of electropop (the genre of my artist, Astrid S) so this design will work well for my digipak and overall design for my website. The website will heavily showcase Astrid S' new album meaning the digipak design will be all over the website too.
